Should we pass on the gas?

Help, we need advice:

We can not figure out why when we look at the GE appliance site there are 48 electric Built-In Ovens and only 3 gas. We prefer cooking with gas, we have a gas line run to the area of the kitchen already, but there seems to be a trend toward electric.

Also, gas seems to be less attractive. This is not our “forever house” if electric is the wave of the future, and then maybe we should go with that…..

I am lost. Parents, wise friends, random net-strangers? Any thoughts on whether we should go with electric over gas? Is there something we are missing?

According to Consumer Reports: "Gas, electric, or induction? If you have gas service, you might want to use both fuels. Electric wall ovens generally have a larger capacity than gas ones, and they’re easier to install."

Do you have 220 volt electric or gas where you want to put the built-in oven? Or either where you want to put the cooktop. Are you going to combo(oven/micro) with the built-in?
I prefer gas when cooking because it seems easier to control on the stove top. As for the oven, its a toss up. Since this isn't your "forever" house, style and price should be your guide. Ease of installation can be a consideration too. you're loved

The installation can be a big deal with gas. And we were big fans of gas but our cooktops come close to the control you get with gas.

No matter what we are doing the gas cook top, we have both had electric and prefer gas by leaps and bounds.

The question at hand is the oven.

I am not sure if there is a 220 volt electric where we want to put the built in oven. There is gas running there. Based on the CR clip, the aesthetics of electric, and the cost, we are leaning electric.

Now, when I get home I will check on the 220 volt question.

After talking w/issb he said you can only get the oven/micro combo if you go electric?
The electric oven would be fine; larger capacity is important and temp control doesn't matter as much, and you'll use the microwave alot too.

I say go for the electric if it gives you more options. Cooking-wise, I only notice a difference stove top. Although, we have a super old oven, that's totally gas and it just keeps going and going, with very little fuss. We thought it broke down once, and it was just one little worn out part - fixed in about 10 minutes. But you probably won't be in that house when this oven gets old...

No problems getting comments on appliances, huh?

I love my gas. But the electric oven loks better. Gas stove top and electric oven.

My vote.
