Out of this world

In 1986, when I was a “shorty” (as Ian would say), I saw Halley’s Comet. The next sighting of Halley’s Comet will not happen until 2061. I am one of the rare generations of kids that will ideally be lucky enough to see it twice in my life.

Right now all over the internet and email circuit there is a rumor going around saying that on August 27, 2007 (a week from today) there will be another space phenomenon -- this time with the Red Planet. I was pretty excited about this as well – until I did some research.

Apparently, on August 27, 2003 Mars was the closest to Earth than it has been ever in record history. Anyways, here is what the email said to look for:

Bunch of lying email jerks.

On a much more positive and real note, all this happens while we have our "Teacher in Space" program going. As a kid of the Challenger-era, I have to say I have been fascinate by the program and even tough I never wanted to be an astronaut, I still think that these folks are pretty wonderful. (And I like the teacher’s name.)

I heard today they are moving up the Endeavor’s return to get back before Hurricane Dean. Safe travels to them.

I've heard that a tropical vacation is when you run out of gin on a jamaican vacation. A tropical storm is whenyou ask your girlfriend to go get some more!
