Centex started the foundation leveling this morning. It was a sight! The Supervisor hadn’t showed up, but his crew arrived first. Ian and I were putting all the tools in the shed and I went in to the front bedroom to see 10 little Latino guys with their faces pressed up to the window taking very quickly in Spanish. I am sure they were thinking – this is going to be a lot of work!

Ian and I are crazy – we know this. But, at least we know when this is all said and done that the house will truly be ours.
Did I mention that the neighbor, Talbot, who has been here almost 40 years said it used to be a crack house? Look at his website - Mom and I toured the house. We even did the catwalk to the treestand 4 stories up!!!
Well, bygones to the crack house – hello to the dirt house!

Sounds like you get a weekend off, at least from ripping and tearing. I'm sure you'll have lots more to do-like picking out paint (Ian probably won't have strong opinions on that). Enjoy!

suggestion.....be sure when they strengthen the floor joists, they do extra in the kitchen where those drain pipes are drilled right through the center of the joists....definitely not code. There are rules as to what percent of a joist can be drilled out and where the drilling must be...typically top 1/3 and these are in the middle.

We have today off. First time in months. But, tomorrow they will be out of there and we are going to survey the damage, use the dirt as filler/leveler in the yard, and begin the very daunting task of packing up everything we own for the second time in 10 months ...yuck.
Good luck with that. Make sure to hire movers. They are worth it. I will never move again!!!!
